Apple Crumble

Easy delicious apple crumble. Great idea if granny smith apples are readily available.

Ingredients

Apple filling

Quantity Ingredient
1 kg Granny Smith Apples, peeled and cut into large (2cm) cubes
1 tbsp flour
1/3 cup white sugar
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp butter, melted
1 tsp cinnamon

Topping

Quantity Ingredient
1 cup oats (rolled or quick cooking is fine)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup plain flour
125g unsalted butter (melted)
pinch salt

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees c
  2. Create apple filling: In a bowl mix the apple filling ingredients
    • 1kg of apple cubes
    • 1 tbsp flour
    • 1/3 cup white sugar
    • 2 tbsp lemon juice
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  3. Create crumble topping: Mix the following in a bowl until clumps form:
    • 1 cup rolled oats
    • 1 cup plain flour
    • 1/3 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 125 g melted unsalted butter
    • pinch of salt
  4. In a baking dish or pie tin,
    • Spread the apple filling mix evenly
    • cover with the crumble topping
  5. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Stand for 10 minutes before serving.
